My whole life, I have had some sort of connection to the natural world.
Even as a kid growing up in suburban New Jersey, my idle time was spent exploring the woods behind our house or the small pond two blocks down the road, learning the name of every tree, bird, or bug that I encountered.
After moving to rural southeastern U.S.
with my family as a young teenager, the new opportunities to explore real wilderness increased exponentially. While hiking, backpacking, and fishing in the Blue Ridge Mountains, my love for nature and this region solidified and endures until this day.
After college in North Carolina and several years in the corporate world, I started a fulltime career out of outdoor photography and writing in 2003.
In 2005, I received the National Conservation Award in Communications by Trout Unlimited for my extensive research, photography and writing projects on behalf of preserv
