Michael Joseph Jackson, dubbed the "King of Pop," was born in Gary, Indiana, into a musical family.
By the end of the twentieth century, the Catawba Valley tradition had come down to just one person, the late Burlon Craig.
The eighth of ten children, his father, Joseph, was a steelworker and musician, while his mother, Katherine, worked as a saleswoman and played the piano. Despite his father's strict discipline and alleged emotional abuse, all the Jackson siblings displayed musical talents.
